How to create genuine connections on Social Media

STOP. TRYING. TO. SELL. TO. PEOPLE. WITHOUT. FIRST. CREATING. A. CONNECTION!!!!
S&$% People!
I can’t tell you how many times i’m sent a friend request, no message or introduction AT ALL then immediately I get a request to join your group or page.

NOOOOOO BRO. At least take me to dinner first!
I don’t know you, I haven’t even gotten a chance to properly look at your page and what you do before you slide into my DMs. WHO IS TEACHING YOU THIS ISH? WHOOOOO DO I SMACK FOR THIS?!

Truthfully, let me tell you what happens when you have a bunch of people on your page or group that don’t give a shite what you do.

*STORY TIME*
Once upon a time Jimmy decided he was going to grow his business by adding people against their will into his group. Some people caught on to his bull and deleted Jimmy and his group. Some people were annoyed but forgot to remove themselves from his group. Some people didn’t even notice. And then there were a few that cared about what he was selling.

Now Jimmy has 3000 people in his group- a lot of them didn’t ask to be there. A lot of them don’t even KNOW they’re there. A Lot of them don’t even know why they’re there, who he is or what he does.
He’s trying to sell to these people…these people aren’t carefully curated…they’re not his ideal clients, they’re just numbers to feed his fragile little ego.

Facebook sees that Jimmy has 3k people in his group with 5 people engaging and they say, well…Jimmy is obviously a boring motherfucker who doesn’t have very interesting content because no one cares enough to engage. So Facebook then says “woahhh let’s not show him to people, there are other people that are more interesting than him.” Jimmy then dies. Not him, his business.

Then there is Jane…she knows the value of creating connections and relationships in order to grow her business online. She knows it takes more work but she’s willing to take the time to figure out her ideal client so she can sell directly to them instead of casting a net far and wide and seeing what she catches.

She goes live, she creates good content that people enjoy. She provides value to the people that follow her, she engages with others and their content that she enjoys. She’s funny and witty and everyone likes Jane because she doesn’t try to sell- people love what she does and they go TO her!

Do you want to be Jimmy or Jane? I promise, the numbers don’t mean anything if you’re not getting engagement or conversion! Who cares about a number of bodies if you’re not making any sales?

This is something all of our social media clients are told ahead of time- growing your numbers is a bonus but it’s not the goal.
